When searching for the best diaper bag, style and durability were at the top of my list. You want a diaper bag that will hold up to your lifestyle and needs. If you have browsed for a diaper bag recently, you know there are fifteen billion options to choose from! Do you want a backpack? A tote? A tote that converts to a backpack? How many pockets?
It’s honestly enough to drive a person insane.
I have researched and spoke with other moms about which diaper bags they prefer and why. When looking for a diaper bag for yourself, keep this list in mind.
How To Choose The Best Diaper Bag For You?
- Price – Do you plan on keeping the diaper bag for years or several months? This factor will decide your price range. You would not need to spend several hundred dollars on a diaper bag that you will use for a few months. There are plenty of budget-friendly diaper bags for every person’s price range.
- Durability – You want a bag that will hold up well from the newborn thru toddler years. Water and stain resistance materials help keep your bag looking fresh and new for years to come. Read reviews! If a bag has multiple reviews of stitching or tearing defects, you may want to take that bag of your list.
- Manufacturer Warranty – Most companies offer a limited or lifetime warranty on their products since they want to keep their customers coming back. Be sure to read up on their warranties and any customer reviews.
- Style – Tote, backpack, messenger bag? The choice is up to you and with so many fashionable bags, there is a style for everyone.
- Organization/Pockets – This is also personal preference. If you are a minimalist mom you will not need a bag with 20+ pockets, however, if you travel a lot with your child a bag with 20+ pockets is a must.
- Size – Compare the size and weight of several diaper bags you are interested in. Remember you will be carrying a small human and half of your house with you, so go for a lightweight bag.
- Accessories – What accessories are important for you and your lifestyle? Do you take a lot of stroller walks or enjoy being outdoors? Stroller attachment and insulated bottle pockets would be higher on your list than a changing pad.
What Is In Your Diaper Bag?
Your checklist may differ from mine slightly, but this is what I ALWAYS have in my diaper bag.
- Diapers (3 or 4)
- Diaper cream
- Small folding changing pad
- Change of clothes
- Tylenol & Motrin
- Oogie Bear
- Bottle with formula
- Bottle of warm water
- Hand Sanitizer
Best Diaper Bag For Twins/Double Stroller
Skip Hop is a very popular brand among moms for good reason. Their products are high quality and stylish. If you are a mom of twins or have a side-by-side double stroller, this is a diaper bag to look at. It was designed specifically for double strollers and with 16 pockets, you will have a place for everything. The main compartment zips shut to keep all your belongings safely inside along with magnetic snaps on outside pockets. The two outside pockets are great for keeping a bottle or sippy cup handy throughout the day. The D-ring on the front personal pocket can hold hand sanitize, toys or pacifier for easy access. The Skip Hop Duo Double can be carried as a messenger bag or remove the shoulder strap for tote style carry. The matching changing pad is also included with the bag. As any mom knows, a changing pad is a must have in every diaper bag.
Best Travel Diaper Bag
For families that travel frequently, the Skip Hop Duo Weekender is very similar to the Duo Double. It attaches to your stroller for hands-free easy access, can be worn as messenger style or shoulder bag, 2 front pockets and side insulated pockets for cups.
The feature that sets it apart from the rest is the luggage handle sleeve! Simply slide the sleeve over the handle of your rolling luggage and that’s it! The Weekender also offers a wide “drawbridge type” opening front compartment equipped with 2 packing cubes.
Best Overall Diaper Bag
I have to admit, I have never heard of this brand before researching diaper bags. With over 1,100 reviews and 4.8-star rating, I took notice.
If you are looking for a diaper backpack, this has it all. The oxford fabric is a high quality, durable, light weight material that is water resistant. The shoulder straps are a wider “S” shape to reduce shoulder pain and breathable padding to reduce excess sweating and discomfort. For shopping or walks around town, the Mokaloo includes 2 stroller straps for easy attachment. For the techy geeks or moms constantly on the go, a USB charging port and cable is included! You will need to purchase a power supply separately. The main compartment is VERY large with 4 stretch pockets and a zipper pocket. Ever needed a diaper or toy in the bottom of your diaper bag and don’t feel like digging for it? On the back of the Mokaloo bag, is a zipper for easy access to the main compartment. Genius, right? A feature that I love about my diaper bag, which I cover later in my post, is the side pocket zipper slot. This pocket is great for keeping baby wipes in arms reach with a messy toddler. The front pocket has 2 insulated pockets for bottles and a waterproof pocket for wet bibs or clothes. With the overall modern, stylish design, the Mokaloo diaper backpack can be used for years and carried as a purse or luggage.
Best Designer & Cloth Diaper Bag
If you are able to have a higher budget for a diaper bag, the JuJuBe BFF is the way to go. This is my sister-in-law’s favorite diaper bag, hands down. She has a 5-year-old and an 18 month old, so she has been through a few bags over the years. She has plenty of room for everyday essentials with more space left over. It is also a favorite for cloth diaper moms. With a wider bottom than most diaper bags, you are able to stack cloth diapers more efficiently.
With a limited lifetime warranty against manufactured defects like broke zippers, torn stitching, and other manufacturing error, it is worth every penny! The exterior is treated with Telfon to resist stains and the interior is treated with Agion to resist mold, mildew, and bacteria growth. Being a mom myself, this is a very nice feature when you have a toddler with dirty sticky hands and they touch everything! The JuJuBe BFF includes 2 insulated side bottle pockets, a large main compartment with 4 pockets and 3 zipper pockets and most importantly a mommy pocket with key fob and glasses pocket. A memory foam changing pad is also included to maximize baby comfort. The absolute best feature is the crumb drain. Tilt your bag to one side and voila! Bye-Bye crumbs! If you do need to give your bag a thorough cleaning, the JuJuBe BFF is machine washable.
The JuJuBe BFF can be carried as a backpack or shoulder bag and the shoulder pads are made with memory foam for extra comfort. It can attach to most strollers, however the stroller straps are sold separately. It is available in a variety of colors/patterns.
Best Designer Diaper Bag On A Budget
Are you looking for a designer diaper bag without the hefty price tag? The Krauss backpack has the look and quality of a designer bag and available in several different colors/patterns. They have a 100% customer satisfaction guarantee, if you are not completely happy with your purchase, they will make it right.
The MB Krauss Backpack has a large main compartment with 11 interior pockets, 3 of which are insulated for bottles and 5 exterior pockets. The side pockets are great for sippy cups or wipes with an easy access zipper. The 2 pockets located on the front and hidden zipper pocket on the back are great for keeping your personal items separate and easy to reach. A changing pad clutch, zip bottle insulator and stroller straps are all included with your bag purchase. If you prefer a tote to a backpack, MB Krauss also make a tote version of this product.
Best Diaper Bag For Tactical Mom/Concealed Carry
Although this is not classified as a “diaper bag”, I personally use the Maxpedition Jumbo Versipack as my everyday diaper bag and purse. This bag is very comfort to carry with an adjustable padded shoulder strap and extra padding on the back for cross-body carry. The Maxpedition Jumbo Versipack is not bulky like most messenger style bags, it is made to curve around your body. The military grade nylon material is water resistance and a very durable material that holds its shape well.
The Maxpedition Jumbo Versipack has 5 exterior pockets and a bottle pouch. The main compartment is very spacious and has a expandable drawstring pouch for extra security for your items. With multiple molle webbing locations you can easily attach toys, pacifiers or extra Maxpedition pouches. My favorite feature is the side slip pocket, a great place to securely keep your cell phone out of your toddlers reach. On the bottom of the shoulder strap, is a key clip for quick access to your keys or use as pacifier clip. There are not many diaper bags that allow you to conceal carry properly. The rear zipper compartment contains a hook-and-loop interior for secure placement and easy access to your firearm.
